Better Georgia

Medical marijuana is STILL ILLEGAL in Georgia. Demand REAL reform.

UPDATE: It is STILL ILLEGAL to cultivate, manufacture or sell medical marijuana in Georgia, so Georgians have no way to legally obtain the medicine. Gov. Deal is claiming victory while Georgia families will continue to suffer.

In effect, Deal's new law would turn people who desperately need treatment for themselves or their loved ones into drug mules. Don't let him get away with it.

Tell your lawmakers to support Georgia families with members who suffer from seizure disorders, cancer, glaucoma and other diseases that can effectively be treated with cannabis. It’s time for our elected officials to take action and legalize medical marijuana in Georgia.

“Georgia Lawmakers: The effectiveness of medical marijuana to treat seizures and other medical conditions is proven. Public support for medical marijuana is at an all-time high and this is one of the few issues that elected officials on both sides of the aisle can agree upon.

Now we need leaders who will stand up and fight for the Georgia families who would benefit from medical marijuana legalization."

With strong support from 69 percent of doctors, the parents of children who suffer from severe seizures and the public, it is time to legalize medical marijuana in Georgia.

Currently, many Georgia families with members who suffer from illnesses treatable with medical marijuana are faced with a difficult decision: Wait for lawmakers to advance legislation or uproot their families and seek treatment in other states.

A total of 23 states and the District of Columbia now allow for comprehensive public medical marijuana and cannabis programs. More than one million U.S. patients receive the treatment for a wide range of conditions--from multiple sclerosis and nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy to Crohn’s disease and seizure disorders.

CNN’s chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta has been vocal in his support for legalizing medical marijuana and doctors across the nation share his professional opinion.

It’s not enough for our governor and other state leaders to slow walk clinical trials in Georgia when other states have made much more progress more quickly. Both the science and the support from the medical community are there.

These Georgia families can’t afford to wait. And they shouldn’t have to.

Tell your lawmaker to support Georgia families who would benefit from legalized medical marijuana.
